Spaceships Art Gallery
This project was recently finished. No progress pictures or anything. It did span over 8 years… the first ones were printed on a janky inject printer in 8x10 frames that we spray painted black. Good enough for what it was and where we were in life.
After moving into the new place, we bought a wide format photo printer (for kid art) and decided to give these the prominence that they deserve!
This is another example of Lauren having a great idea and me executing it to some degree of acceptability.
I went to the saw mill and returned with enough walnut to make the frames. Got the glass at Home Depot, since very few saw mills sell glass.
This was my first time cutting a slice in the corners and putting a different piece of wood in it. These have a cherry inlay in the corner.
They just have a teak oil finish. Nothing crazy.
I also learned of a super glue trick. If you put the glue in the crack you want to fill and then sprinkle a mix of sawdust and baking soda the glue hardens lightning fast! And it’s immediately sandable. And it’s strong. And it’s wood colored!
